About us

Truro Sinfonia started life as an Adult Education orchestra early in 1996.  Based at Truro College, the orchestra has gone from strength to strength and it now has around thirty attending members and guests who meet once a week on a Wednesday evening to rehearse.

Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for anyone wishing to play in a non-competitive environment.  There are those who have been playing for a relatively short time and others who have returned to playing after a long gap.

We actively welcome new members, especially string players.

OUR CONDUCTOR

Barry Moule studied violin with Stuart Deeks at the London College of Music and composition with Patrick Shuldham-Shaw (a pupil of Vaughan Williams) and Alan Bush.  He gained experience of conducting at Goldsmith's College and worked with the conductor Arthur Davidson.  His debut as a conductor was with the South Bank Orchestra at the inauguration of the National Theatre.

Besides Truro Sinfonia, Barry has also directed the Bude Concert Orchestra for over forty years.  He also follows a long-standing family tradition in his interest in folk song and dance and has published three books on dance music.
